Smaug

The major antagonist is a dragon named Smaug.Smaug hoards a great treasure. In other words he stole the treasure. Bilbo Baggins and the other dwarves go on a journey to reclaim the stolen treasure from Smaug. In the book, Smaug is sometimes called Smaug the Golden or Smaug the Magnificent. Smaug is very greedy, just like all dragons are. After ruining Dale, he took over the Lonely Mountains in 2770. Smaug then lived there. Smaug gets hit with a black arrow in his weak spot. Bard was the one to slay him after being told about the weak spot by a bird.

At one point in the book when Bilbo saw Smaug there was a lot of precious things under him, also know as the dwarves treasure.

Smaug represents greed. He wanted all this gold and he got a ton of it. He was happy but he still wanted more. That's being very greedy. He also had no use for the treasure anyway.
